Learn About Us
Two Hindi words ‘CHALE CHALO’ meaning ‘Let’s Move Forward’ is a Grassroots Development Organization with a Professional Commitment. Established and registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882 on April 21, 2005, CHALE CHALO has been working closely on various developmental issues in Odisha, where many communities face extreme poverty and are affected by disasters, inequality, unsustainable development practices, poor governance, and environmental degradation—issues that threaten human survival and development.
Since its inception, CHALE CHALO has been committed to working closely with local communities to promote inclusive, equitable, just, and sustainable development. The individuals involved with CHALE CHALO primarily come with a strong background in social initiatives, dedicated to bringing positive change. Our organization is guided by core principles that include self-regulation, democratic functioning, non-violence, equality, and equal opportunity.
We emphasize respect for human values, dignity, and human rights. Additionally, we are committed to nature, caring, sharing, transparency, accountability, ensuring responsiveness and effectiveness in functioning, and the adoption of best practices in all our work. These are a few of the mantras (core principles) that guide our organization.

What We Do?
What Sets Us Apart
At Chale Chalo, we believe that sustainable development requires more than just interventions. What makes us unique is our ability to combine diverse strategies, partnerships, and community participation into a holistic approach that creates lasting impact, resilience, and security for communities.
We work with a dedicated team of professionals and grassroots leaders who bring experience, local knowledge, and skills. This enables us to deliver solutions that address multiple dimensions of poverty—livelihoods, natural resources, environment, governance, social empowerment, education, and health. By keeping sustainability, security, and resilience at every step, we ensure that communities are not only lifted out of poverty but also ready to face future social, economic, and climate challenges.
Our interventions are never imposed from outside. Instead, we make beneficiaries the central participants in every stage—from planning and implementation to monitoring and evaluation. Through capacity building, training, and continuous support, communities take ownership of the outcomes. This participatory approach strengthens their confidence, resilience, and long-term ability to sustain achievements well beyond the project cycle.
We place strong emphasis on nurturing positive relationships with local government officials, traditional leaders, and institutions. This builds trust, transparency, and security, while reducing corruption and misuse of power. At the same time, we collaborate with NGOs and civil society organisations (CSOs) in Odisha, across India, and internationally—creating networks that share knowledge, support each other, and make development more sustainable.
Our work is designed not only to address today’s challenges but also to shape a more sustainable and resilient future. By combining innovation, community knowledge, and collective action, we go beyond numbers and statistics, creating impact that strengthens livelihoods, protects dignity, and ensures long-term social, ecological, and economic security for generations to come.
